Rock & Thistle uses reclaimed wood and other unwanted materials to craft quirky and thoughtful gifts. The owner Kerry seized the opportunity of lockdown to be creative and she began making gifts for loved ones. Due to such great feedback, she started a Facebook page and took an Elevator business course and began selling online and in upcycling shops.
Her 'Positive Pants' little houses have been really popular. These are about offering a bit of hope in a unique gift. Spreading some joy to a loved one and the beauty is they are all made using reclaimed or sustainable materials. She loves that these seemingly unwanted materials, set for landfill, can be used creatively to make someone smile.
She makes miniature houses mainly and caravans using scrap wood and most have a positive message or affirmation attached. There is also a driftwood collection of tiny cottages. Totally unique and made with love. A different way of telling someone how special they are or to have an interesting eco-friendly piece of art that evokes feelings of love and peace. Her next venture is upcycled jewellery.
It's important to Rock & Thistle to try and make a tiny difference to the world and they believe the gifting industry could really change by thinking how it can reuse and upcycle to make gifts. It seems to resonate deeper when something has been handmade for someone too. Its all about making connections.
Rock & Thistle can post throughout the mainland and internationally. They also drop off for free or collection, in central Perth.

No one puts Betty in the corner!
The ‘Betty’ brand encompasses cleaning company Sweeping Betty, property management company Sleeping Betty and now the fragrance arm, Smelly Betty. Betty embraced her love of essential oils that she uses daily, to start making her own home fragrances, as a response to the impact the pandemic had on her business.
Smelly Betty set up her essential oil home fragrance company and has developed a range of diffusers and room sprays that are lovingly hand-poured, packaged and shipped from her home. She only uses the highest grade of essential oils and her packaging is uniquely designed.
All the essential oils have been carefully blended to promote certain elements of personal well-being and the fragrance comes presented in a beautiful amber glass bottle. Each bottle has a gold-plated bead attached.
Betty felt it was important that her products aren’t something to hide in a corner. That’s why designing the bottle was equally as important as creating the scent. A Smelly Betty diffuser or room spray can act as a centrepiece on any surface.
Smelly Betty doesn’t use dyes, parabens, or additives. All of the products are vegan friendly and no ingredients are tested on animals. Smelly Betty can be shipped with free P & P to all parts of mainland UK.
Louise McLaren is a designer and maker of beautiful, intricate paper cut images.

Louise creates intricately patterned, delicate images to be kept and treasured for a lifetime. The catalyst for each one of her designs is the words contained within them. Each fragment speaks about the "big" things in life; love, family, friendship and the possibilities of being.
All of her papercuts are hand drawn and then hand cut by Louise. No laser cutters, no die cutting machines, just Louise, her scalpel and a bit of patience!
