Experience the beauty of Perth’s riverside walk as the Riverside Light Nights return for 2018 from 27th January to 14th February 2018, running nightly 5 – 10pm


Over 50,000 people attending Perth Riverside Light Nights last year and this year is set to be bigger and better!

Come and join us for some family fun to finish off Perth’s Winter Festival with a bang. The Riverside Light Nights start on the 27th January and finish on the 14th February. We have a fantastic programme of themed nights so there will be lots of different things to see each time you visit.

27th/28th January - A Celebration of Burns

A celebration of Burns

Supported by Event Scotland

27th January

Come along to celebrate the national bard.

18.00  Themed parade commences from Perth City Centre – 2 High Street, along St John Street  to Riverside area

18.20  Parade ends

18.20  Themed entertainment (continues to 10.00pm) commences featuring:

o   Traditional Music including pipe bands

o   Rap bringing Burns songs and tales to the modern era

o   Highland dance and the Small Ceilidh Corner!

o   Storytelling & Burns Tales

o   Poetry

o   Comedy in the Stand-up Burns Zone

o   Food tasting including cock-a-leekie soup, haggis (traditional & chilli) , neeps and tatties, cranachan, bannocks and Whisky.

2nd/3rd February - Super Bright Silent Nights

Super Bright Silent Nights

For these nights you need to channel your inner raver and look out the neon and glow sticks. There will be face painting, acrobatics, the spark drummers (3rd only). Take your headset and boogie through the park to the silent disco.

6th/7th February - Yellow Brick Road

Yellow Brick Road

Watch out for the flying monkeys and Ruby slippers as we leave Kansas behind and head to Oz. Ad-lib Theatre Arts will be taking you on a journey down the Yellow Brick Road…

30th/31st January - Superheroes


Make sure you dig out your best superhero costumes and head along to see what super effects are turning Perth into Gotham City. One of the original 1960’s Batmobiles will be onsite – so bring your camera.

4/5th February - Wonderland


Join in with a Mad Hatters Tea Party, look out for the Queen of Hearts and the very late white rabbit. Ad Lib Theatre Arts are back to bring Wonderland to life with their amazing characters and props. Curiouser and Curiouser.

10/11th February - Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

Follow the Chinese Dragon as it leads the annual Chinese New Year Parade on the 10th Feb only from 2 High Street, along St John Street and across the Queens Bridge to the Riverside Lights. As this is the Year of the Dog it would be lovely to see some of our 4 legged friends come along too.  There will be plenty of Chinese themed activities over the weekend to help usher in the Chinese New Year

13/14th February - Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day

Write your valentines note and have your messages displayed in the sky during this magical theme. Be serenaded by the entertainers as you stroll through the romantic gardens and enjoy a glass of something fizzy. This year we are hoping for a proposal or two!

Every weekend you can practice your circus skills with Adventure Circus. Learn how to Juggle, Hula Hoop and have a shot in the silks! Our amazing Fire Acts will also be joining in the party at all of the themed nights. Make sure you visit the Photobooth and get a souvenir of your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dogs welcome?

Dogs with their responsible owners are welcome on all evenings but we ask that they are kept on leads. However, on the evenings of the 27th January and 10th February, there will be some small fireworks and firecrackers at the event.

Is the event accessible for Wheelchair users?

Although there are some stairs in the Riverside Park area all levels are fully accessible for visitors who using wheelchairs

Is there a charge for the event?

No, the event is free although there is a charge for food and drink from the vendors

Can we come in Fancy Dress?

Yes please – we would love to see people joining in with the various themes

Where should we park?

Parking is free on street after 6pm in Perth City Centre. We recommend that you park in the city centre and walk over to the event. There is no parking at the event. For full info on parking in Perth visit http://www.pkc.gov.uk/parking. Visitors with impaired mobility will be able to be dropped off but there is no disabled parking on site.

How do we get into the event?

This year there is only one entrance to the event which is located at the lower end of the Riverside Park at the Pagado – please follow the signs.

Will there be toilets?

There are portaloos provided at the exit for the event

What is the weather is poor – will the event be cancelled?

In the event of severe weather, any decisions to cancel the event will be promoted on the @PKC and @Perthcitycentre social media channels.

Can we bring our own food and drink?

There are a variety of food vendors providing lots of delicious dishes for you to try but feel free to bring your own picnic if you want. However, no alcohol can be brought into the event and any alcohol bought at the event cannot be taken out with the event zone.

Is there a charge for the Photobooth?

No this is free of charge

What is the last time for entry?

The last time for entry is 9.45pm – the event closes at 10pm

Perth is easily accessible by road from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Stirling and Inverness. There’s a wide range of safe and secure, short stay car parks within the city centre.  We’re delighted to announce free parking all weekend in Perth & Kinross Council run car parks across Perth and Kinross this December.

Perth can be reached by a network of fast and reliable coach services. Travelling around Perth is easy by bus, with many fast and reliable services available, from all over the City.

Getting to Perth by Train

Perth Railway Station is a short walk from the city centre. There are regular services to and from Stirling, Dundee and Pitlochry, with a journey time of around 30 minutes.Direct trains to and from Edinburgh run at approximately two hourly intervals.
