We’re delighted to reveal the acts for Perth’s biggest ever Christmas party! It’s big, bright and brimming with stars, Perth’s Christmas Light’s Switch On is this year’s must-see festive celebration with a fantastic line-up of sensational acts making their way to Fair City to kick-start the season’s glorious Winter Festival including Alesha Dixon, MUD, The Hunna, East 17, Boyzlife and more!

Taking you from afternoon into evening, Perth’s Christmas Light’s Switch-On has something for everyone – stages, entertainment-packed streets and an array of tasty treats and street food await you as we prepare to countdown to Christmas 2017.

And of course, all of this festive fun is wrapped around a bustling, compact City Centre packed full of fantastic independent shops, big name High Street brands and an unrivalled choice of restaurants, eateries and bars. Make sure your diary is marked. Perth really is the place to be when it comes to kicking off Yuletide festivities with the city offering a range of fantastic entertainment on Saturday 18 November at one of the biggest Christmas parties in Scotland.

Meet Santa’s four-legged friends

We’re delighted that The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd will be joining us for this year’s Perth’s Christmas Lights Switch On! Come visit Santa’s reindeer on George Street on Saturday 18th November, the reindeer will also take part in the Christmas parade!

Joining Santa’s Reindeer in George Street for Perth’s Christmas Lights Switch On on Saturday 18th November will be miniature donkeys: Sam, Jack, Logan and Winston from Ayleswood Rare Breeds, Camels and Birds of Prey from Raptor World.


Perth’s Festive Ice Rink

To get you in the festive mood the Outdoor Ice Rink makes a welcome return this year to Perth city centre.
The Ice Rink will be located in Horsecross Plaza, Mill Street, Perth

Opening times:

Friday 17 November 2017 (12.00 – 10.00) (Last Entry 9pm)
Saturday 18 November 2017 (10.00 – 10.00 (Last Entry 9pm)
Sunday 19 November 2017 (12.00 – 10.00) (Last Entry 9pm)

Sessions Start on the hour and run for 45minutes. Cost £6 per person. Skate hire is included in the cost.

Ice Carving

Glacial Art will be returning once again to Perth to create some amazing works of art from some of the largest ice cubes we have seen. Watch the artists carving live and if you’re lucky you might even get a shot.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang 

The real Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from the 1968 film will be visiting the Fair City. Chitty will be on the High Street from 12 noon – 4 pm for photos and will joining the Christmas Light Switch On Parade.

Perth Theatre Open House

Perth Theatre will be open on Saturday 18 November for visitors to come in and say hello! Why not pop in and have a look at the brand new Perth Theatre whilst enjoying the festive celebrations in Perth City Centre? Visitors can explore the auditorium and public spaces or enjoy some tasty refreshments at the cafe and bar.

The Handmade Show

It showcases the talent of designer-makers from Scotland and beyond in a wide range of arts and crafts disciplines. The event is a fabulous opportunity for you to sample the handmade wares and to kick-start your Christmas shopping in style!

Perth Chocolate & Gin Street Fest – Saturday & Sunday 18/19th November

The Perth Chocolate & Gin Street Fest is a unique celebration of all things chocolate and gin. Indulge your passion for the cocoa bean with mouth-watering chocolate bars; buttons; sauces; spreads; cakes; truffles; hot chocolate and so much more…Browse the great range of stalls showcasing gins from around the UK with an amazing variety of flavours to choose from. Taste a few, buy a bottle or two – there’s a gin to suit every taste!

Book your little chef into the children’s chocolate workshops; take part in a gin tasting; visit one of the many coffee shops offering special chocolate treats; grab a bite to eat at the street food area. Perth City Centre will be bustling with activity throughout the whole weekend. With street entertainers, reindeer; fun fair rides; music and entertainment there’s something for everyone.

Cake, soup, chocolate and gin – what more could anyone want for a festive feast?

The Christmas Lights Switch On fun continues with a celebration of some of the best and most creative of Perthshire food and drink. And, it all takes place against a backdrop of live entertainment from local bands and other performers. The Festive Feast includes:

Perth Chocolate & Gin Street Fest / Continuation of the event from Saturday 18 November 2017.

Cake Fest Perth and Kinross / An edible map of Perth and Kinross will be created under the watchful gaze of Head Baker Simon Preston. Cake buildings and landmarks from across Perth and Kinross will be added to the creation throughout Sunday 19 November as the cake map takes place.

Zuppa – Great Perthshire Soup Competition / Let the battle of the soups commence. The second annual Zuppa Soup Competition finale will take place on Sunday 19 November. The best soup recipes using produce from across Perth and Kinross will be put to a public vote. Which soup will come out top?

Getting Here

Perth is the most accessible city in Scotland with fantastic road, bus and rail links. Perth is location just 90 minutes from 90% of Scotland’s population.

Getting to Perth by Car

Perth is easily accessible by road from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Stirling and Inverness. There’s a wide range of safe and secure, short stay car parks within the city centre. Getting to Perth by Bus

Perth can be reached by a network of fast and reliable coach services. Travelling around Perth is easy by bus, with many fast and reliable services available, from all over the City.

Getting to Perth by Train

Perth Railway Station is a short walk from the city centre. There are regular services to and from Stirling, Dundee and Pitlochry, with a journey time of around 30 minutes.Direct trains to and from Edinburgh run at approximately two hourly intervals.

The Christmas Light Switch On event is taking place in the city centre of Saturday, 18 November.  The event requires some road closures to be in place which will impact on public transport.  The following arrangements have been put in place:


Tay Street – full road closure

Tay Street which will be closed from 1800 hours on Friday, 17 November until midnight on Sunday, 19 November 2018.  The affected bus routes are:

  • Service 7 (Scone) Journeys will be required to divert via Queens Bridge, Dundee Road, and Gowrie Street to resume the normal route at Bridgend.  Passengers will be advised to make their way to South Street (Stop M)
  • Service 3, 11, 12 (Kinnoull/Gannochy/Scone)   Journeys will be required to divert via Queens Bridge, Dundee Road, and Gowrie Street to resume the normal route at Bridgend.  Passengers will be advised to make their way to South Street (Stop O)
  • Service 12 (Hillend) Journeys will be required to be diverted via Charlotte Street, Atholl Street to Kinnoull Street.  Passengers will be advised to make their way to Kinnoull Street (Stop H)

Christmas Parade
The Parade will depart from the top of the old High Street, beside St Paul’s Church, at 17.30 and will move along New Row, turn left into County Place and then continue onto South Street where it will head towards to River Tay.  There will be a rolling road closure in place and should be completed by 18.00 at the latest.  This will cause some delays to journeys in the city at this time.
Service 301 – Park & Ride

The Park & Ride will operate an extended timetable on Saturday, 18 November 2017 with journeys operating every 15 minutes until the last departure from Perth, Mill Street, at 21.00 hours. The Adult and 2 children day return tickets will be valid up until the last journey for Saturday only.

On Sunday, 19 November 2017, Service 301 journeys will operate every 15 minutes commencing from Broxden Park & Ride at 08.30 with the last journey departing Perth, Mill Street at 17.30.
