August is traditionally a harvesting month. Crops ripened by the sun are gathered and the grains used for making tasty foods and beverages and the Crannog farmers plough the soil.

Iron Age life is highlighted by the Crannog Community in this interactive farming event.

Farming and ploughing, cheese-making, Barley- based cookery demonstrations, grain-grinding plus drop-spinning, corn-dollies, woodworking, creative crafts and fire-making.

The ancient Crannog dwellers were farmers, Iron Age farm-life is highlighted by the Crannog Community in this interactive farming event.

The farmers used the water and the land around them to great advantage but the heavy toll meant items were frequently having to be repaired or replaced.  Our farming experts aim to make a new plough at this event, so come along and give them a hand. Find out how much hard work it was to plough a simple plot by trying out our replica foot-plough.

Demonstrations of cooking using barley to make delicious stews, ancient grain breads and much more – all which are available in exchange for a donation.

Plus drop-spinning, corn-dollies, woodworking and creative crafts.
