Pitlochry PH16 5ND
Written and performed by Apphia Campbell Directed by Arran Hawkins and Nate Jacobs.
After a sell-out show in our intimate River Room space in June 2018, we bring this incredible piece back to be performed on our main stage.
Inspired by the life of Nina Simone, Black Is The Color Of My Voice follows her journey from young piano prodigy destined for a life in the service of the church, to a renowned jazz vocalist at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement.
A remarkably moving and powerful performance.
In the second part of this two hour double bill, Apphia will perform Soul Sessions, a musical cabaret celebrating Simone’s brilliant music.
“Campbell may wear Simone’s trademark head wrap but her performance goes beyond impersonation.” The Times
