A new literary festival is coming to Perthshire this April, celebrating contemporary Scottish culture and the beauty of the Scots language.

The Soutar Festival of Words will take place at numerous venues and outdoor locations across Perth over the weekend of 26th to 28th April, providing opportunities to access new and unusual literary platforms and events.

The Soutar Festival of Words will host over twenty events, including author talks, the Perthshire poetry slam, children’s events, music and opportunities for local people to gain an insight into the world of creative writing.

Two of the UK’s top selling crime writers will be meeting in Perth. Chris Brookmyre and Mark Billingham will be appearing together for one night only on Friday 10th May at the Soutar Theatre, AK Bell Library, Perth. This event is for fans of either writer and for those looking for an alternative and highly entertaining night out in Perth. Mark will be promoting his latest title, “Their Little Secret”. Prior to becoming a bestselling author Mark was an actor and stand-up comedienne and brings this talent to his events.

Chris will be promoting his latest title “Fallen Angel” and was previously a journalist. Both authors share a raucous sense of humour that will have the audience laughing all night.

Not for the faint-hearted!

This event will be for an adult audience only. A licensed bar will be provided and Waterstone’s Perth will be supporting with book sales and book signing on the night in Café Culture at the Library.

Wave cheerio to naughty seagulls nicking your chips and jump in a yellow submarine, diving through miles of ocean down into the deepest, darkest sea trench. 

On our journey, we’ll meet many beautiful strange creatures from the clowns of the air to the ever-hungry gulper eel, discovering and drawing them all as we descend through the depths. This fantastic voyage ends with everyone joining together to create a monster deep sea drawing!

Suitable for ages 5+. Materials provided. 

Jill’s book ‘The Sea’ will be available for purchase and signing by Jill after the workshop.
