Boating on the Tay
From May until October discover the River Tay with a range of fantastic boat trips. Take a trip from Broughty Ferry to Perth or discover Elcho Castle on a trip from Perth City Centre.
Due to the tidal nature of the river, the trips will run at different times of day meaning you get the choice to explore this beautiful river first thing in the morning, during the day or into the early evening.
Why not combine your trip on the Tay with a spot of shopping in Perth and breakfast/lunch/dinner from one of our great cafes and restaurants or try something new at the fab Willowgate Activity Centre.
Can I cancel my booking and if so how? Cancellations must be made 48 hours before a trip for a full refund. Cancellations must be made via email to email@example.com
If a trip you have booked is cancelled due to bad weather or extreme river conditions, you will be notified by email 24 hours prior to the trip.
Please ensure at the time of booking that you are happy with the vessel that you have selected for your trip as it may not be possible to change this at a later date or on the day
Full payment must be received prior to the trip commencing.
Are there reduced rates for group bookings? Enquiries for group bookings should be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. When enquiring about a group booking, please be aware you will need to book the whole trip which will range from 8 seats to 12 seats, depending on the vessels/offering available. Group bookings should be sought as early as possible.
Can I buy tickets on the day? If there are tickets available for trips on the day of enquiry, customers have up until 1 hour before the trip departs to book a ticket.
What is the age limit for children’s tickets? 12 years of age
Is there wheelchair access? Please note that Marine Safety Regulations deem that the vessels are unsuitable for wheelchairs.
Are dogs allowed on the boats? All our boat trips are dog-friendly. However, if you plan on bringing your pet along, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate. Whilst completing the checkout process, make sure to leave a note in the comment box telling us you would like to bring your dog.
Do babies and very young children qualify for free tickets? Yes. Children under the age of 3 years qualify for free tickets, however, tickets must still be chosen when stating passenger numbers i.e. no of passengers under the age of 3 years. Stringent safety measures restrict the number of passengers per vessel, so please ensure the number of tickets acquired accurately reflects the passengers who will be boarding the vessel as per booking.
What is the age for a concession ticket? You have to be over 60 years to qualify for a concession ticket.
Are there toilet facilities? Toilet facilities are available at the South Inch car park and Willowgate Café (during opening hours)
Is it safe to carry babies on backpacks or baby carriers on the boats? Babies will only be allowed on board a vessel when securely positioned in a backpack or baby carrier. Buggies or prams will not be allowed on the vessels and there are no storage facilities for buggies/prams at the pontoons.
How far in advance should I arrive at the boat before departure? On the day of your trip, please make sure you arrive in plenty of time as the boats keep to a tight schedule
What parking is available at the Perth departure point? Parking is available at the South Inch Car Park
What parking is available at the Willowgate departure point? Parking is available at Willowgate Fisheries
What happens if the trip is cancelled? Trips will only be cancelled in extreme weather or river conditions
Can I reclaim VAT on my ticket? Yes, you can reclaim the VAT on your ticket.
Can I phone to book? Bookings can be made by phoning Willowgate Activity Centre on 01738 637 245 during office hours.
What happens if I don’t turn up or cancel my trip after making a confirmed booking? Customers who have to cancel bookings should refer to the cancellation policy above (first question). If you don’t turn up, but fail to cancel your booking, the seat remains vacant. If the booking is cancelled 48hrs in advance, the seat will become vacant and available for re-booking.
No refunds will be given for late cancellations (less than 48hrs notice) which are not as a direct result of bad weather or extreme river conditions. Failure to turn up for a trip which has been booked does not qualify for a refund.
What should I wear? Check the weather and dress appropriately. Life jackets will be provided.
What safety measures are in place?
Safety measures are in place on the pontoons, life jackets will be provided and the operator has to pass stringent safety measures to enable the transit of passengers on commercial vessels. Operating conditions outlined by the Harbour Master has been issued to the operator. All trips are reported to the Coast Guard.

Taymara (Tay Maritime Action) is a voluntary sector organisation which exists to serve the local communities of Tayside – ie the geographic areas of Fife, Dundee & Angus and Perth & Kinross – with their vessels and qualified crews providing safe access to the exciting Tay River marine environment to provide knowledge, qualifications, skills and memorable maritime experiences for all, but especially for those who are disadvantaged or vulnerable.

Perth can be reached by a network of fast and reliable coach services. Travelling around Perth is easy by bus, with many fast and reliable services available, from all over the City.
Perth Railway Station is a short walk from the city centre. There are regular services to and from Stirling, Dundee and Pitlochry, with a journey time of around 30 minutes. Direct trains to and from Edinburgh run at approximately two hourly intervals.
