Everyone can play a part in Perth Theatre Panto

Perth Theatre is offering everyone in the land the opportunity to take part in this year’s panto!

The clever people at Horescross, together with Perth’s much-loved Panto Dame, Barrie Hunter, is keeping the spirit of panto alive in Perth Theatre this Christmas with a physically distanced promenade and live broadcast panto.

Audiences will join panto dame Barrie Hunter and friends in social bubbles or online for a magical adventure through different parts of the theatre which will be all dressed up for the festive season!

Along the way, you’ll meet some panto characters (good and not-so-good!) along the way, and help them on their quest to find the Light and Laughter that’s been missing of late. It’ll be lovely to be back in the room with an audience again-we’ve all missed that - oh yes we have!

Join In The Fun With A Cameo Appearance

Barrie is also writing and directing the panto promenade and live broadcast, and he is putting the call out to the people of Perthshire and beyond to make a cameo appearance in the finale of the show.

You are all being asked to film a short clip of yourselves singing a song and doing a simple dance on your phones.  Oh Yes You Are!

All the recordings will be brought together on a giant screen to create a massive group song and dance which will be aired at the finale of every performance.

The first fifty people who submit a video will be able to claim a free ticket to the live broadcast of the panto on Sunday 13 December. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 17 November.

Here's Barrie with full instructions on how to join in!

Barrie Hunter said:  "We're so excited to give our community, local and further afield, a chance to appear in this year's show at Christmas. I had a hoot filming this video in my kitchen, and I'm sure there's loads of folk out there who would love to have a go too so I say to everyone - go on, get involved-watch it, film yours and send it in...we can't wait to see you all in action!!"

“As sad and disappointing as it is to postpone Cinderella until 2021, it is of course the right decision, but I’m delighted that Perth Theatre is going ahead with our alternative festive offering, Oh Yes We Are!

Make sure you learn the song for joining in the promenade or from home!

Like the old song says, There Is Nothing Like A Dame,
But our Dame has only one thought-that there's nothing quite like HAME!
Since the world went weird and scary, she's become a tad erratic,
And is cooried in her Hidey-Hole and won't come out the attic!

Her son is at his wit's end, his head is in a spin,
He's lost the plot, his patience-now he's even lost his twin!
So he's off to search for brother, bring him home and save the day,
Or, most likely, take the wrong turn and be easily led astray.

And who's this in the darkness, boldly searching for the light?
It's our Hero on a mission, and she wants to wrong a right..
But there's evil lurking just below, underneath the earth,
Banished there for crimes committed down the years in Perth!

So come with us on a journey through the darkness of the night
On a quest to find some joy, some hope, and maybe love and light,
We'll walk the paths together, where there once was mirth and laughter,
And perhaps, by working as a team, we'll live happily ever after!!"
