Events and Festivals in Perthshire are back!

We're living for summer 2022 and endless days and nights of sunshine and togetherness.  Dust off your best dress - or perhaps pull on your best wellies - and get ready for a summer full of culture, music, theatre, 70 years on the throne and 50 years enjoying Perth Festival of the Arts! 

Many of our favourite events and venues have returned after a two year hiatus and they're going all out to make up for lost time. Whether you enjoy getting down and dirty at an outdoor music festival or spening an elegant evening in the theatre, you're certain to find something to while away a few fun-packed hours - or days - in Perthshire.

Perth Festival of the Arts

18th - 29th May


Perth Festival of the Arts celebrates its 50th Anniversary from 18th – 29th May 2022, bringing a 12-day feast of concerts, shows, workshops and speakers to cultural venues around Perth.

The Festival, which becomes a gem in Scotland’s cultural calendar each year, covers a wide range of arts including popular shows, classical music and opera, rock, jazz and folk music, theatre, literature, visual art and comedy. The Festival attracts thousands of people of all ages from across Perth & Kinross, Scotland and beyond, and aims to encourage audiences to experience a range of arts and enjoy the festival vibe in the city.

The 2022 Festival features a star-studded line-up, bringing the hottest names in classical and rock music, and award-winning theatre productions to Perth. Headlining the Festival’s rock line-up is Scottish band Twin Atlantic, while a live gig weekend showcases the best Scottish emerging bands and singer-songwriters. Folk artists Siobhan Miller and RURA perform a double-bill concert, while the spectacular Black Dyke brass band closes the Festival.

Other highlights include a Gala Opening Concert with Scottish Opera, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly by Opera Bohemia, talks by wildlife presenter Gordon Buchanan and MasterChef judge Jay Rayner, and Children’s Classic Concerts performing a fun show for children.

The Festival spans Perth’s modern and historic cultural venues including Perth Concert Hall, Perth Theatre, St John’s Kirk, other churches in Perth, and events in outdoor plazas. The Festival also features one of Scotland’s largest exhibitions of contemporary Scottish art, ‘ArTay’, plus a special exhibition celebrating 50 years of the Festival in Perth Museum & Art Gallery. Pitochry Festival Theatre

May - October

Pitlochry Festival Theatre is delighted to be reopening their doors for the first time in nearly two years to welcome audiences back Inside (and Outside!) with an exciting lineup of world premières, classic plays, new writing and a smash-hit musical, as well as a brand new Studio performance space and extension to our front of house.

2022 marks an incredibly exciting time for the Theatre as they emerge from the pandemic with joy and determination to keep bringing live performance to audiences in Pitlochry.

The season will open in the Auditorium in May with a staging of Stephen Greenhorn’s much-loved musical Sunshine on Leith. Other highlights in the season include the première of Anne-Marie Casey’s adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel Little Women, Michael Frayn’s iconic backstage comedy Noises Off which celebrates its 40th anniversary; and a revival of Noël Coward’s classic 1930s comedy of manners, Private Lives. 

Outdoors sees their stunning Amphitheatre used as the backdrop to Under Another Sky and Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Lipstick, Ketchup and Blood. They are also delighted to welcome Peter Rabbit and his friends to their Explorers Garden as an interactive trail the whole family will love, and they will adventure Around the World in 80 days at the Bandstand! Finally, the opening of their brand new Studio theatre brings three brand new pieces of work by outstanding Scottish playwrights.

The Black Watch Castle & Museum

2nd June - 5th June


Jubilee Dinner
Thursday 2nd June | 7pm-10pm | £30 per person
Visit the Castle for a wonderful 2-course dinner celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The evening will begin with a courtyard drinks reception followed by dinner in the Queen Mother room where you wll hear archive readngs, and listen to a musical performance whilst reflecting on the experience of The Black Watch at the time of the coronation.

Following the dinner, join in the official jubilee celebrations as communities across the country pay tribute to the Queen and her service.

• 9.35pm | Piper Alistair MacIntosh will play ‘Diu Regnare’
• 9.40pm | Lee Fitzpatrick will undertake the bugle call, ‘Majesty’ to announce the lighting of the beacon
• 9.45pm | Lighting of the Jubilee beacon followed by Perth Choral Society performing a ‘Song for the Commonwealth’

Platinum Jubilee Street Party at the Castle
Friday 3rd June | 11am-5pm | Adults £15 | Children £10
To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, The Black Watch Castle and Museum invite you to their Courtyard Street Party!
Gather with friends and family to enjoy homemade sausage rolls, sandwiches, Victoria sponge cake, scones with lashings of jam and cream all. washed down with pots of  tea (or coffee) and jugs of juice. Enjoy live music from the McAndrews Sisters, get creative with fun, family crafts including corgi masks and crown making, enter their cake decorating competition, and paint a pebble for the platinum path to be laid in the Castle grounds. You can also meet the special guest Cpl cruachan IV, the cheky military mascot Shetland pony.

Jubilee Picnic Weekend

Bring along your garden rugs and enjoy the Castle grounds with a Jubilee inspired 
picnic lunch as the sound of 50’s music fills the air. Your great value ticket includes a delicious picnic lunchbox with all day access to the Museum, family crafts and crown cooking decorating.

Exhibition | The 1953 Coronation Medal: Soldier Stories

As part of our Platinum Jubilee celebrations, this exhibition highlights some of the 1953 Coronation medals in our collection and explores the stories behind The Black Watch soldiers to whom they were awarded.

Platinum Jubilee Celebration Weekend 

2nd - 5th June

Celebrate with us in Perth city as we prepare to mark the uniquely special occasion that is Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Dust off your best picnic blanket and pull on your dancing shoes, Perth is thrilled to be bringing you a big, bright and beautiful weekend celebration for her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend.

From Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June we're inviting everyone to join us in a city wide party! It's all free to attend and is the perfect start to a summer full of fun, events, and togetherness.

Scone Palace Garden Fair 

3rd & 4th June

Scone Palace Garden Fair is the perfect day out for gardening enthusiasts and their families and will take place on Friday 3rd & Saturday 4th June 2022, 10.00am to 5.00pm.

Held in the Gardens at Scone Palace where you can visit some of Scotland’s Specialist Nurseries, Scottish Plant Societies, along with our Head Gardner, Brian Cunningham who is also a presenter with BBC’s Beechgrove Garden. 

You will also be able to have a wander around our Gardens and even have a go in their Murray Star Maze!

Potfest – International Ceramic Festival

10th - 11th June 2022

Over 80 studio ceramic artists from across the UK, Ireland and France will be selling their work  at Scone Palace.

Held across several large marquees on the Palace lawns, this is a cultural experience like no other - the biggest totally ceramics event of its kind in Scotland, with a range of work on display that has been selected to surprise and delight. 

Exhibitors selling their work, trade stands, demonstrations by artist from Scottish Potters Association along with raku firing and hands on activities. 

The Palace Coffee Shop will be open for hot and cold food and drink.

The show will be open daily from 10.00 am - 4:30 pm.

Solas Festival

17th - 19th June

Solas is back this year with a full size festival. Taking place in the beautiful fields of Errol Park from 17-19 June, Solas Festival creates a generous, hospitable space in Scotland where the arts can be performed and enjoyed by all. The all-age, weekend-long celebration of music and the arts is designed to entertain, inspire and challenge.

Their programme also makes space for challenging debate with activists, writers and thinkers from across the political, cultural and religious spectrum. The festival offers a broad, inclusive, creative and entertaining programme for festival-goers of all ages in a safe environment; everyone is welcome.

Come and enjoy music from Scottish hip hop superstars, Stanley Odd, renowned folksingers Kris Drever and Iona Fyfe, and find new favourites such as accordion wielding rocker Callum Easter or the stunning vocals of Eliza Shaddad.

Children and families are always welcome at Solas, and they have a range of activities for little people to enjoy - from puppet making to circus skills and comic book writing! Yoga and wellbeing will also be a big part of the weekend, and they'll be offering yoga for kids, teens and adults as well as drumming workshops, pilates, meditation and more in our peaceful yurt.

There will be a special comedy set from the fantastic Josie Long!

GWCT Scottish Game Fair

1st - 3rd July 

Celebrate the very best of the outdoors with The GWCT Scottish Game Fair, sponsored by NFU Mutual, as it returns to the stunning setting of Scone Palace.

The GWCT Scottish Game Fair returns to Scone Palace in Scotland from 1- 3 July with an incredible itinerary of displays, demonstrations, have-a-go attractions and exhibitors covering everything from fishing and shooting to gundogs and falcons. Headline sponsored by NFU Mutual, visitors can enjoy everything from gundog demonstrations and competitions, ferreting, fly-casting and fly-tying, clay shooting, the Kitchen Theatre.

Plus this year the Nick Nairn Riverside Restaurant sponsored by J.W. Galloway. Nick will be creating a bespoke menu for visitors to the new riverside restaurant, sponsored by J.W Galloway, and mingling with guests to share his stories of appearing on the BBC’s Ready Steady Cook and cooking for HM The Queen on Great British Menu.

Rewind Festival

22nd - 24th July

Rewind is back at Scone Palace for it’s (belated) 10th Anniversary!

Celebrate the best decade around – the 80s!  It’s the festival you don’t want to miss!

Southern Fried

30th July

Southern Fried returns for one night only

American roots music fans can rekindle the spirit of Perth’s popular Southern Fried Festival at two special gigs on Saturday 30 July, 10:30pm

Some of Scotland’s finest singers including Kirsten Adamson, James Grant, Jill Jackson, Karen Matheson, Dean Owens, Lisa Rigby and Emily Smith will join Musical Director Stuart Nisbet and band to restage the Celtic Connections success story Scotland Sings Nanci Griffith in Perth Concert Hall.  Standing gig Late & Southern Fried in Perth Theatre features Southern Fried favourite Katie Whittaker Music and award-winning Brixton-born singer-songwriter Errol Linton.

Paws at The Palace

4th September 

Paws at the Palace, Scotland’s largest Dog Friendly Event, 1800 dogs and over 100 breeds last year! 

We are delighted to announce that this event will be returning on Sunday 4th September 2022.

Perthshire's go-to dog event for 2022, is the perfect chance to treat your four-legged friend to a grr8 day out!

Paws at the Palace will feature doggy fun and games, parades of different breeds, agility classes and some paw-some demonstrations. The all-day event will also include food stalls (for humans and dogs), cool-down areas, and a host of stall holders selling doggy gear and gifts.  It’s going to be Pawfully Fabulous!

Craigie Hill Festival

10th September

Perth’s Craigie Hillfest is back with a bang in 2022. 

The popular annual event – now in its fifth year - went on hold during the pandemic but another sell-out is on the cards for September 10. 

Eighties Perth popsters Fiction Factory are reforming for a bill-topping hometown gig, 40 years after their smash hit “(Feels Like) Heaven” topped charts across Europe. 

Promoter Pauline Harrier is thrilled to get the band back together on home soil, following in the footsteps of past headliners including Fish, Eddi Reader and The Rude Boys. 

The 2022 Craigie Hillfest line-up showcases a string of top local talent. 

In addition to headliners Fiction Factory, the day-long September 10 event being staged in the grounds of Craigie Hill Golf Club has again secured popular local bands to keep the crowds entertained long into the night. 

Mad Ferret, who took part in the poignant “Concert for Ukraine” fundraiser at Perth Concert Hall in the spring, headline in the clubhouse. 

Other artists include The Curtains, The Red Pine Timber Company and My Pet Rocket. 

The festival vibe is enhanced by food and drink outlets, including the ever-popular Ruby the Camper Van.

Enchanted Forest

29th September - 30th October 2022.

Returning in October 2022, Scotland’s favourite sound and light show, The Enchanted Forest, fuses creative talents and nature together to create an outdoor experience that will set your imagination alight.

Celebrating it’s 20th Birthday in 2022, The Enchanted Forest is renowned internationally as a trailblazer of son et lumiere displays, with thousands of visitors travelling to Scotland from around the globe to see it every year. Featuring dazzling visuals and innovative design set against an original musical score, you can explore the stunning autumn woodland setting of Forest and Land Scotland’s Faskally Wood near Pitlochry.

The Enchanted Forest ‘s spectacular return is heavily anticipated after being cancelled during the Pandemic and demand for tickets is expected to be high. The theme will be announced in June 2022, and tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday 17th June at 10am.
