Perth Safer City Centre Forum

Perth Safer City Centre Forum

Perth is a great place to work and live but like all cities, it has its share of problems with crime and associated issues – issues that can change depending on the time of day or night.

Through Perth Safer City Centre Forum a range of organisations in Perth are working together to tackle shop theft, fraud, robbery, vandalism, fly-posting, graffiti and anti-social behaviour.

The Safer City Centre Forum is developing a range of measures to reduce the incidence of crime and the fear of crime, tackle environmental issues and improve community safety for the mutual benefit of the business community, the local community and individuals.

Examples of this include:
• Radiolink – scheme operating between business both in daytime and evening economy, cctv room and police.
• Information sharing on criminal activity in Perth City Centre between businesses, City Centre Management and Police.
• Civil and Criminal Exclusion Orders – a ban from one – ban from all basis for all crime network business members within Perth city centre.
• Active Pubwatch Scheme – promoting a safe city centre in partnership with relative agencies.
• GET HOME SAFELY initiatives including late night transport availability, taxi marshals and promoting a PARTY SAFE & GET HOME SAFE message.
• Best Bar None Awards – national scheme promoting safety within licensed premises.
• Park Mark Awards – scheme promoting safe car parks within Perth city centre and Park & Ride facilities.
• Street Pastors – dedicated patrol of targeted city centre areas in the evening economy promoting safety of vulnerable persons.

The Forum welcomes the involvement of city centre business in crime prevention initiatives.

STREET PASTORS - Foil blankets keep revellers warm.
Perth nightclub The Loft has joined in partnership with Perth Street Pastors with funding to help vulnerable city centre revellers.
A donation from The Loft/That Bar will be used to purchase ‘space blankets’ made of reflective tin foil, for use by revellers who may find themselves out in the cold late at night in the city centre.

The foil blankets, which help people retain their body heat, are issued by Perth Street Pastors in the early hours at weekends to vulnerable mainly young persons not dressed sufficiently for the freezing weather conditions.

Perth Street Pastors is an initiative under the Safer Cities Programme and contributes greatly towards city centre safety within the evening economy.
Operations director Craig Fraser states “We are happy to be able to help our local Street Pastors who do a great job. These blankets have no doubt prevented and will prevent cases of hypothermia, therefore easing the workload for accident and emergency staff at PRI.”

Park Mark Award
The number of car parks in Perth City Centre achieving the national 'Park Mark' safety status has significantly increased, with the support of the Perth Safer Cities Initiative.

Park Mark is a national award given by the police to car parks that achieve a high standard of safety. The scheme is designed to reduce crime and the fear of crime in car parks. The award is obtained by putting measures in place to deter criminal activity and create a safer environment for car park users.

Perth Safer Cities Initiative worked together in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council's Parking Services, Tayside Police and the British Parking Association to deliver the initiative. Funding was also provided by Perth Common Good Fund.
